Calling all journalism students, recent graduates and anyone with great writing and editorial experience will be considered.
Company description: Mountaingoats.co is a new, online start-up that will assist young people in their career decisions by profiling people that love their job. We are seeking a journalist to help interview people in different careers; mainly in advertising & marketing, arts & entertainment, finance and health-care. After each the interview, you are then responsible to write the Q&A so that it translates well on paper. Mountaingoats.co will launch in the Spring of 2012. This is an exciting opportunity to gain journalism experience and/or grow with our company while also learning about exciting and varied career paths and different jobs!
Location: Toronto. Some travel within the GTA will be required for the interviews.
Hours per week: Part-time, flexible hours. Approximately 10 hours a week. The goal is to complete one-two interviews per week.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the president to get the background of each person you will be interviewing. (We will provide you with the people to interview.)
- You must be able to research and demonstrate your understanding of the person and the industry you are interviewing in order to draft the right questions.
- You are responsible to set up and interview that person based on a time and place that works well for the both of you. (The actual interview itself is usually 1.5 - 2 hours long)
- After the interview, you are required to write, edit and revise the Q&A in a concise, yet impactful way.
- Ability to interview and write informed two page Q&A’s at a rapid rate.
- Concise and impactful story generation will be a big part of the job and we want to work with people who can handle that.
Requirements:
- In the final years of studying, or with a degree in Journalism
- Self-motivation and enthusiasm to follow through on each interview from start to finish.
- Outgoing, inquisitive and detail oriented person who communicates well with people.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, creative, highly organized and fanatically attentive to detail.
- Great interview skills and interpersonal skills are a must.
- You are a 'people person' - think Barbara Walters, Larry King, who have the natural ability to make people feel at ease during the interview! This is not that difficult as people tend to generally love to talk about themselves.
- Good language skills—both written and verbal.
- Pro-active, go-getter.
- Passion for learning about different career categories and people.
