Calling all journalism students:

Get practical work experience in Dawson City, Yukon this summer!

The Klondike Sun is Dawson City’s community newspaper, published bi-weekly Managed by the Literary Society of the Klondike, our publication keeps both residents and visitors up-to-date on the news and events of the Klondike Region. Throughout the year the Sun primarily relies on the story and photo contributions of its many dedicated volunteer writers and photographers.

With the support of HRSDC Summer Jobs Program, The Sun plans to hire a student intern for summer 2011.

Under the supervision of the office manager and editor, the successful applicant will be directly involved in the production of a small community newspaper.

Potential tasks include:

• Journalism - Providing written and photographic coverage of local events and special interest stories.

• Layout - Working with Adobe Indesign to place stories, photographs, and ads within the newspaper’s existing template.

• Digital posting - Managing the Klondike Sun’s Facebook page, posting archived issues to the internet, and updating the newspaper’s blog [coming soon].

• Distribution and Subscriptions - Assisting volunteers in the mailing and delivering of new issues on distribution day every two weeks.

Salary

$12 an hour

30 hours/week for 13 weeks (hours can be flexible to fit an applicant’s work schedule)

Tentative start date: June 1st
