Company Profile: As one of Canada’s pre-eminent patient care, research and academic health science centres and one of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top 75

Employers, Mount Sinai Hospital has a well-earned reputation for excellence in the community and beyond our borders.

We focus on three broad organizational goals:
• Patient and Family-Centred Care;
• Increasing our role as an academic health sciences centre and
teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto; and
• Enhancing our community health partnerships.

In 1923, Mount Sinai Hospital was established as a 33-bed maternity and convalescent hospital. Today, we are a state-of-the-art, 472-bed patient care, teaching and research hospital, but the reason we’re here has not changed since the day we opened our doors — serving our patients and their families.

Duties: The Communications and Marketing Department is looking to hire an intern for the Summer 2011 work term to contribute as a team player.

We would like to hear from you if you are interested in an opportunity to learn and develop internal communications and media relations skills. We work closely with the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital, providing you with an opportunity to learn more about fundraising and research communications as well.

In general, projects will include:

• Working with Communications and Marketing staff to execute strategic communications tactics such as writing articles for internal and stakeholder newsletters (print and electronic) and developing copy for the Intranet and Internet sites.
• Assisting our media relations team through media monitoring and measurement as and when required, and helping update media lists.
• Providing additional communications and marketing support as needed.
• Assisting with special events as required.

Required Skills: We are looking for an intern with strong written and verbal communication skills. You should be an enthusiastic, motivated, team player who takes initiative, works well on independent projects and can meet deadlines. You should be willing to scout for stories that touch people’s lives, across various departments.

Additional Skills: Mature, professional, diplomatic, capable of delivering to deadlines, and good at building relationships and providing solutions.
