MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Butterscotch.com is seeing a talented Editorial Assistant / Assistant Web Editor for the butterscotch.com mobile lifestyle network.
In this position you will work closely with the Editor, writing show notes for posted videos, researching and writing news posts, writing scripts for video tutorials and shows where appropriate. You will also be uploading videos to our video host and video syndication services, engaging with our user community via the Ask feature, on YouTube and in social media, ensuring timely and accurate coverage of important mobile developments and creating video tutorials that answer mobile lifestyle questions for beginner through advanced users before they ask.
Big bonus points to dedicated Android users.
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/OBJECTIVES:

[50%] Writing compelling and SEO friendly news blog entries, headlines and promo copy along with step-by-step instructions where appropriate for individual videos and editorial packages. Creating compelling and easy to understand video tutorials answering common tech questions.
[20%] Uploading videos to our video host service and to syndication outlets like YouTube, 5min, Vimeo et. al.. Taking an active role in solving any video issues as they arise by engaging the support teams for the respective services.
[10%] Creating "topic pages" from concept to completion. Topic pages are a collection of different types of content that answer a user's questions and nudge them toward doing more. Examples include the Android and iPhone topic pages as broad examples, but topic pages also get much more granular.
[10%] Engaging with the butterscotch.com user community, with monthly newsletters, on our own site via the Ask feature and user comments, via syndication partners like YouTube and in social media via Twitter and Facebook.
[10%] Various duties including but not limited to discovering new and innovative ways to get our content out to would-be visitors, keeping an eye on new syndication opportunities, creating and maintaining iTunes and FeedBurner feeds, occasionally sending tchotchkes out to the community and so on.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A passion for technology and specifically for mobile technology.
- The ability to take complex concepts and explain them to less savvy visitors.
- Excellent time management skills.
- A get it done attitude.
- The ability to create bot-friendly copy that doesn't feel it was written for bots. That is to say, SEO text that's written smarter and for human eyes first and foremost.
- A dedicated denizen of the Android camp.

EDUCATION
A degree or diploma in Journalism or related discipline or commensurate experience. Experience in an online content creation or editing role and familiarity with content management systems (CMS); WordPress Experience an asset, consumer CMS like Blogger is valuable too.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Some travel may be required to attend press events and industry trade shows, both inside the city of Toronto and throughout North America.
SKILLS
- Excellent writing, copywriting and copyediting skills.
- Highly tech-savvy. If your friends and colleagues always seem to come to you with their tech problems, that's you.
- Ridiculously connected; absence of an Internet connection leaves you trying desperately to figure out what to do next.
