Women’s Post Magazine – Editorial Intern (Unpaid)

Are you looking to gain valuable experience in the world of media? If so, then a Women’s Post internship is a perfect fit. We’re looking for senior level students with a strong interest in Magazine production. As an editorial intern, you will be exposed to the world of production, both in-print and online. You will have the creative independence to profile successful entrepreneurial women, network, create interesting and relevant content, attend industry events, and learn how to use a number of tools to be successful in the publication industry. There are also opportunities for employment upon completion of your Internship.

  1. We are looking for a commitment of 15-21 hours per week. In this regard, we are extremely flexible and able to accommodate to your schedule.
  2. We are looking for internships to begin Monday April 4, 2011

Your roles and responsibilities include the following:

· Provide editorial support to the Associate Publisher

· The ability to produce clean content with excellent spelling and grammar

· The ability to pitch story ideas related to professional women

· Provide initial proofreading of columns to ensure content is error-free

· Identify and conduct interviews with suitable candidates for ‘Woman of the Week’ and additional profile pieces

· Source images and artwork

· Upload written copy onto website (www.womenspost.ca) from contributors

· Maintain the site once it is live, and ensure all information presented is accurate

· Regularly engage in social media to promote brand awareness and increase website traffic

Required skills:

  • Recent journalism grad or student enrolled in a journalism program
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, familiarity with Canadian Press style preferred
  • Technically inclined, with desktop publishing skills in a PC environment
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Experience with Photoshop preferred
  • Familiarity with content management systems. All necessary training will be provided.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines is a must
