TIFF, a charitable, not-for-profit arts organization,
is accepting applications for the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme.
The Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme was established in memory of Toronto Star’s veteran entertainment journalist Sid Adilman. This programme will develop the journalistic skills of one emerging journalist who demonstrates a strong interest in film and the arts. The Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme is made possible through philanthropic donations to the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme endowment fund.
The recipient will have the opportunity to cover the 36th Toronto International Film Festival (September 8-18, 2011), the largest public film festival in the world, with support from the Festival’s Press Office. The recipient will receive a press pass (which allows access to Press and Industry screenings, press conferences and industry events) and will have the opportunity to: write reviews and articles; blog on the Festival website; network with accredited local, national and international journalists; attend Festival events as assigned; and produce a post-Festival report.
To be eligible for the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme. You must:
- Be over the age of 19.
- Be currently enrolled in either a journalism or film studies program, or a student graduating from either a journalism or film studies program.
- Demonstrate strong writing ability, a passion for cinema and the arts, and a sound knowledge of film.
- Be available to cover the entire Festival in Toronto (September 8-18, 2011), including evenings and weekends. Ideally, applicants will also be available pre-Festival events and activities in July and August

- Who was Sid Adilman and what was his contribution to journalism in Canada?
- How do you think the Sid Adilman Mentorship Programme will help you achieve your career goals?
- Either one review of a Canadian film or one article on the Canadian film industry (500 words maximum). The review or article does not need to have been published.
- One additional writing sample (maximum 500 words), preferably written in journalistic style. This sample does not need to have been published.
- Your résumé.
