SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
CANADIAN MILITARY JOURNALISM COURSE
WHO: Twelve students enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year (minimum) of a Canadian University journalism degree program.
WHAT: A nine-day certificate course introducing students to military journalism and the Canadian Forces. The course includes a combination of media-military theory in a classroom setting, coupled with field visits to regular force and reserve units. WHEN: May 2nd – May 10th, 2011.
WHERE: classroom work - Centre for Military and Strategic Studies, University of Calgary
Fieldwork - Calgary reserve units and regular force units.
HOW: Included in the scholarship are: transportation to and from Calgary, accommodation, meals, and ground transportation in Alberta.
DEADLINE: Submissions must be post marked no later than March 25, 2011.

Requirements: two hard copies of each of the following in English – a cover letter, a resume, an unofficial transcript of your grades, a 500-word essay stating your interest in the course and two examples of published writing (no web links to published material please), and two confidential academic letters of reference from instructors which must be included in your submission. These reference letters must be sealed and signed by the instructor across the seal. Please do not send tapes, CDs or DVDs. Your cover letter must include a full mailing address, phone number, FAX number and e-mail address. Please indicate in your letter if the mailing address is the same location you will be traveling from if selected. All applicants will receive notification of their status by April 8, 2011.
