An opportunity for you to get some of your articles and/or images up on a great website, and get free copy editing/critiques!
Teaching Kids the News, www.teachkidsnews.com, gives elementary-age kids real news stories about what’s happening in their world. We’re Toronto- and Ontario-centric, so you can probably send us some of articles you’ve already written for class – altering them slightly to make them kid-friendly. (Send us the ones you got an A+ on!)
The site is edited by Ryerson J-grad Joyce Grant, and two elementary-school teachers; the teachers apply “curriculum notes” with every article so they can be used in-class by teachers.
What’s in it for you:
- Free copyediting/critique of your articles by a veteran journalist;
- Your articles and/or photos up on a great-looking news website with credits and a link;
- You’ll be helping kids learn about their world.
What we need:
- Brief (150-200 words), tight, well-written news articles;
- Photos of what’s happening in Toronto – and of the newsmakers;
- Ideas. Tell us your story idea and let’s see if it’ll work!
Hours:
- Freelance – whenever you have a great article or image that would get kids excited about reading the news.
