Rive Gauche Media, publishers of Integrated Health Retailer (ihr™), Viva™ — Canada’s leading natural health and lifestyle magazine, Canadian Jeweller and Style, is on the lookout for an inspired, insightful and enthusiastic unpaid, part-time EDITORIAL INTERN to join our Toronto office in Yorkville for the winter session. With a focus on trade content, you have a passion for editorial and pop culture, natural health and lifestyle, jewellery and fashion, and add a sense of style and sophistication to everything you do. You also thrive in a fast-paced environment, laugh in the face of multiple deadlines and when it comes to organizational skills, you take a backseat to no one. From digging up the latest news and researching any topic at the drop of a hat, you’ve got the skills and savvy to help support our editorial team in any endeavor.
Primary job responsibilities:
• Fact checking articles, and sourcing accompanying images and products as required.
• Ensuring all sources and information is acknowledged in a form appropriate to the publication.
• Contributing to and researching topics for editorial as required.
• Support editorial staff and art department in day-to-day tasks and administrative duties (mailing, filing, contact sheets, etc.).
• Following the trends of the industry relating to the publications.
• Interns will be given the opportunity to write and edit, pitch and develop story ideas with editors, and learn about all areas of publishing.
The preferred candidate will:
• Be at least in third year of a degree/diploma program in journalism or a related field. Recent graduates also welcome.
• Be highly competent with Word, Excel and Quark/InDesign in a MAC environment.
• Be available to work at least 4 days a week depending on publication needs from January to May 2010.
• Easily relate to our vision of who our readers are; an interest in natural health and fashion/lifestyle is crucial.
• Candidates should be familiar with CP style and have a strong background in fact checking. Strong spelling and grammar skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to meet deadlines is also a strong asset.
