The week of November 15 is International Education Week in over 85 countries worldwide. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind Ryerson community members of the international funding opportunities available to your students.
International Conference & Research Support Fund (ICRSF): This program provides up to $1500 in matching funds for students to attend an conference, undertake research or participate in academic competition beyond Canadian borders. This is an important method for raising Ryerson's profile internationally - what better ambassadors for our institution than our best and brightest students. A key requirement of the program is that students must share their experience with their program area peers upon their return - engendering, it is hoped, increased interest in international opportunities among students across the university.

Ryerson International Summer Experience Fund (RISEF): This program provides a $2000 award to students who undertake an internship, placement or volunteer posting that links one of the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Recipients of this award have spent a month or more in countries such as China, India, Cambodia, Guyana and Brazil undertaking a range of activities as broad as Ryerson's academic offerings. Journalism students have documented the condition of refugee camps; Early Childhood Education students have worked with disadvantaged children in orphanages; and Politics and Public Administration students have assisted local development agencies in cataloguing the needs of their constituents.

In addition to the programs above, Ryerson International hopes to launch a new program targeting increased graduate student participation in collaborative research internationally - more information soon to come.
We are optimistic too that the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities will continue to support international education activity through their Ontario International Education Opportunity Scholarship (OIEOS) program, a program through which a total of 228 Ryerson students have received $2500 each - a total of $570,000.00.
