YouNewsOnline is looking for energetic and idealistic journalism students, young journalists, and freelance writers to contribute to its upcoming website launch.
Co-founded by Toronto-based journalist and author Jay Bahadur, YouNewsOnline will feature video (and other multimedia) contributed by ordinary people on the ground, which will in turn be fleshed out and editorialized by our writing staff—transformed, in essence, into global news. Our aim is to create a worldwide nation of “citizen journalists,” in which the correspondents will be anyone in possession of a cell phone camera, a video recorder, or even a point-and-click. The hope is for YouNewsOnline to provide an outlet for those otherwise unable to bring global attention to the issues that matter to them.
Contributors will be given the opportunity to hone their journalistic skills, through duties such as locating appropriate material, conducting interviews, and writing and editing copy.
At present, the position will be on a part-time, volunteer basis (5-10 hours per week). Once the site is operational, full-time positions will be made available.
