The Province Internships
The Province is looking for students and recent graduates to work this summer on its website and newspaper.
We need students with strong reporting and writing skills, with the ability to do quick files for the web and build the story throughout the day. The students will be hired for 3.5 months to replace reporters on summer vacations.
We are looking for applicants with strong digital media skills, including the ability to take and edit video and produce audio slide shows, podcasts and other packages for the web. We need people who are comfortable with social media, with the ability to blog and reach out to audiences through Facebook and Twitter. Applicants who understand the new news ecology, from text alerts to multi-media add-ons to the finished print product, are who we are looking for.
The successful applicants will need to be strong multi-taskers who can handle all sorts of breaking news as well as writing longer weekend features. Previous experience on a website or smaller daily or weekly newspaper is a requirement. So is a valid driver's licence.
We want self-starters with a positive attitude who can work well on their own and as part of a team.
The Province newsroom provides interns with a welcoming environment and a great summer experience in one of Canada's most beautiful cities. Summer reporters are paid at our first year reporter rate.
Applications need to include hard-copies of clippings and examples of online work. The deadline for applications is Friday, November 19th, 2010.
