LetsStopAIDS is a youth-driven organization that focuses on peer education to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. We aim to engage youth in Canada and worldwide as leaders in the response to this epidemic.
The organization has recently restructured allowing new leadership opportunities for individuals worldwide.
The Director, Public Relation will be responsible for developing and implementing LetStopAIDS's overall strategic public relations programs. Programs may often include media relations, community relations, internal communications and investor relations. The individual will be responsible to respond to all media requests and will act as a representative for the organization. Further, the individual will also be responsible for actively reaching out to media outlets so that they can assist in promoting the brand, organization and various initiatives.
LetsStopAIDS has an exciting 12 month unpaid opportunity (with a possibility for extension) for a confident, results-driven professional to join our leadership team.
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week (varies) (Most of time is virtual)
Responsibilities:
• Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies;
• Liaising with colleagues and key spokespersons;
• Liaising with and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email;
• Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media;
• Collating and analyzing media coverage;
• Writing and editing in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports;
• Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs;
• Devising and coordinating photo opportunities;
• Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
• Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website;
• Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities;
• Commissioning market research;
• Fostering community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives;
• Managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation.
• Report to President/Founder
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in related field, in process of completing a degree program in related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Excellent computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet)
• Proven track record of Public Relations and Social Media awareness
• Actively uses Twitter, MySpace, Digg, YouTube, Facebook, etc
• Needs to have solid PR planning and strategy.
• Interpersonal skills- ability to work with multiple stakeholders managing their expectations.
• Able to meet deadlines within budget and with multiple priorities.
• Have a database and networking experience.
• Excellent writing skills in all genres of marketing and public relations.
• Strong project management skills.
• Team player with the ability to work collaboratively.
• Fluency in French would be an asset
