Postmedia News - paid

Summer Students placements, Postmedia News

Postmedia News is looking for some talented, creative and high-energy students to join our newsroom next summer. The environment is fast-paced; the job is demanding.

Successful candidates get the chance to write stories appearing on our chain’s websites and in newspapers across the country. We’re looking for applicants who can bang out quick but accurate breaking-news hits, in keeping with the company’s digital-first philosophy. You also need to be able to turn those stories into thoughtful, analytical features for the next day’s newspapers.

Students at Postmedia normally divide their time between the political bureau, getting a chance to cover federal politics, and the breaking-news desk, covering an array of general-assignment topics that have you reaching out to every part of the country in search of interesting tales.

Because we are a 24/7 news agency, shift work is part of the position, including evening and weekend shifts. Social media, web and video skills are a must, and proficiency in French is helpful.

Postmedia News is the national news service for the Postmedia Network papers and websites, including the National Post, Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette, Vancouver Sun, Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald, and for canada.com. We also serve dozens of other news clients.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 1, 2011. Please include a summary letter, resume and samples of your work. Please make clear that you are applying for a summer position. These are paid positions.

Applications may be emailed (put “summer job” in the subject line) to:
