Summer 2012 reporting internships
The Edmonton Journal is seeking applications for its summer 2012 reporting internship program. These paid internships usually run from mid-May to early September.
We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working senior-level students with a strong interest in reporting at a daily news organization. The successful candidates must be able to take direction, initiate compelling story ideas, and work as part of a dynamic newsroom team. They also must be comfortable filing breaking news and writing on tight deadlines for multiple platforms. The ability to work under pressure is essential.
Interns should be familiar with social media, and experience with video reporting and data journalism would be an asset. Previous reporting experience at a daily newspaper is preferred.
Interns will primarily work in the news section, but there will be opportunities to try reporting in other departments, as well as to write in-depth features. The successful candidates need to be flexible to work evenings, weekends and overtime as the job demands. A driver’s licence is required.
