Communications Assistant – The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto
The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto is looking for a summer student (July and August 2011) to assist our Communications Team. This is a paid position.
Applicants must be:
- Between 15-30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, and registered to attend in the next academic year;
- Students in a secondary, post secondary, vocational or technical program but not attending full time classes while participating in their placement or hold another full time job that is 30 or more hours per week.
The Communications Assistant will be responsible for:
- Researching, interviewing and writing feature articles for external agency newsletter
- Researching and writing web content for the CCAS website
- Supporting pro-active and reactive media relations activities, including developing communications strategies, key messages, news releases, ongoing media tracking, etc.
- Assisting in planning and executing special events such as Annual General Meeting and Scholarship Event, including comparative site analysis, designing invitations, posters and table cards, coordinating with caterer and venue manager, set-up and evaluation
- Handling requests for public information materials, updating newsletter mailing list, filing, etc.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Initiative and creativity in developing written materials;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels;
- Interest in planning and coordinating events;
- Experience with website design;
- Experience with graphic design software.
The student will be supervised by the Manager of Communications on a daily basis. They will be required to work independently, but will also be a part of a team of individuals that would mentor and provide assistance. The student will be given every opportunity to learn all facets of the administrative role within the department.
The student will become familiar with the functions of a child welfare agency.
