VOLUNTEER AT THE CANADIAN JOURNALISM FOUNDATION’S 14TH ANNUAL AWARDS GALA

DATE: Tuesday, June 7

TIME: 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (light dinner provided)

LOCATION: Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Canadian Room

EVENT DESCRIPTION: Every year, the Canadian Journalism Foundation (http://cjf-fjc.ca) honours excellence in journalism at its annual awards gala. This year’s honourees include veteran CBC foreign correspondent Patrick Brown, the recipient of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award, and Robert MacNeil, award-winning television news anchor, author and journalist, who will be presented with an Honorary Tribute.
Other awards that will be presented at the event include the Excellence in Journalism Award – which will be awarded to winners in two categories: large media and small media – the Greg Clark Award, the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award, the Canadian Journalism Fellowships, the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy and the Martin Wise Goodman Nieman Fellowship.

JOB DESCRIPTION: As a volunteer, you are asked to help with the following:
Room set-up (setting up signs, distributing literature, table cards, programmes, etc.)
Registration (welcoming guests, providing directions, relaying instructions, etc.)
Guest services (directing guests to washrooms, other facilities, providing assistance as needed)
Room take-down (assisting guests, centrepiece relocation, signage take-down, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Neatly dressed (white top, dark bottoms) and neat appearance overall
Excellent customer service skills; courteous and professional at all times, even under duress.
Ability to recognize media luminaries on sight is an asset
