Part-time Freelance Web Journalist, CTV.ca

Expected hours per week: 16 to 32 hours, equal to two to four shifts

Duties of the job
• CTV.ca News is looking for freelance news writers to work weekends and some evenings; on a part-time or casual basis
• Writers will be responsible for 5-7 news stories per day, updating them with the latest information and working with television scripts and other news room sources.
• Weekend and early morning/evening shifts as assigned.
• Participate in news editorial meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience expected of a successful candidate
• Must have strong news and editorial judgment, strong copy editing skills, clear and concise writing ability, have an excellent command of the English language, and an ability to write accurate and engaging headlines.
• Ability to work under constant tight deadlines; time management skills and multi-tasking abilities are essential
• Must be familiar with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
• Must be familiar with social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Degree in journalism preferred plus experience working in a newspaper or TV newsroom and/or online breaking news operation.
• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well individually or in a team.
• Knowledge of HTML, FTP and Photoshop an asset.
• Familiarity with newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.) and web Content Management Systems. Well developed computer skills important.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Other duties as assigned.
