Position:
Social Media and Web Design Specialist

Term: Part-time (one year contract)

The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (RMG) has created a one year contract employment opportunity within its Communications Department. As the Social Media and Web Design Specialist your job will be to contribute to the voice of RMG online through social media properties (Twitter, Facebook, blogging, etc.). In addition to delivering creative ideas to engage with fans online, the Social Media and Web Design Specialist will be involved in monitoring and analyzing online conversations and contribute to shaping our ongoing social media strategy and execution. The Social Media and Web Design Specialist will also be responsible for developing, managing and maintain the RMG website. You have a strong user understanding and demonstrated expertise in Web content, usability, architecture, development and design. The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications Co-ordinator and senior Gallery staff.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and adapt content for social media.
• Use web analytics and social media monitoring tools to provide reporting on online conversation and campaign metrics.
• Ensure that feedback from community members and fans is captured and presented to management in order to help develop and refine the social media strategy.
• Execute contests/giveaways using artist and company social media channels.
• Assist artists with creating, maintaining and optimizing their presence online.
• Act as an ongoing coach for artists and staff on social media best practices.
• Work with the Content Coordinator on the integration of social media and community engagement on artist/corporate web sites.
• Identify and establish relationships with niche/lifestyle community managers and online influencers.
• Brainstorm ideas for new applications, tools and promotions to engage fans online.
• Contribute to the design and development of digital marketing tools relating to social media marketing.
• Stay on the cutting edge of new trends and technologies.
• Partner with internal and external content managers, editors, designers, developers, and other staff to ensure site meet both client and RMG needs, align with the brand strategy platform, and meet RMG Web standards.
• Market and present web/digital strategies to staff, manage multiple projects and maintain schedules and budgets.
• Excellent web/digital media project management and estimating experience.
• Fluent in development optimization techniques to deliver the best user experiences in the most technically efficient manner.
Hours will typically be 2 days a week Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements:
Required qualifications include:

• A three- year diploma in Graphics/Graphic Design/Web Design. A relevant degree is preferred
• Relevant industry experience including Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field
• Proven work related experience with the use of Social Media
• Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, problem solving, analytical and teamwork skills
• Candidates will be required to show a portfolio of related work.
• Demonstrated understanding, immersion and proficiency in social media including leveraging Facebook, Twitter and blogging networks
• Experience with social media marketing, search engine marketing (SEM), and search engine optimization (SEO) is a strong asset
• Experience with web and social media analytics is an asset
• Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
• HTML, XHTML, CSS design, cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, Access, mySQL, javascript
• Macromedia suite: Dreamweaver MX 2004, Flash, ColdFusion, Contribute
• Adobe suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
• CMS, graceful degradation, unobtrusive javascript
• W3C Web standards, WAI, ADA & Sections 508 and 504 compliance
• Preferred-XML, AJAX, RSS, PHP, ASP, SQLserver, ActionScript, Flash rich internet applications
• In depth working knowledge of a range of web related software such as Flash and Dreamweaver
