POSITION: Volunteer Writer (2 Positions available)
ABOUT EAST COAST CONNECTED (ECC):
East Coast Connected (ECC) is a growing non-profit organization that aims to strengthen the bonds amongst the Atlantic Canadian diaspora by promoting 'brain circulation'. Since 2007, ECC has successfully engaged over 3000 Atlantic Canadians living away from home through the innovative use of social networking tools and events. ECC’s mandate is to leverage Atlantic Canadian networks that already exist, fostering a dialogue to create an exchange of knowledge, capital, and creativity spawning economic growth across the Atlantic region. JOB DESCRIPTION
East Coast Connected is looking for writers to contribute regularly to our website and monthly newsletter. Finding stories that link Atlantic Canada with other regions will be the main priority for the candidate in this position. Articles generally focus on Atlantic Canadian success stories in the world of business, science, social enterprises, politics, the arts and culture. The successful candidate will report to the senior editor. They will also be expected to have all their written submissions edited before each deadline.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate’s duties may include but not be limited to the following:
• Contribute at least one story per week to the website
• Research, write and deliver one feature story per month for the ECC newsletter
• Coordinate interviews, suggest story ideas, recommend changes to enhance content
• Collaborate with ECC volunteers and writers
• Edit and upload online content
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge or experience in online publishing
• Journalism and interview experience are recommended but not required
• Ability to meet strict deadlines
• Knowledge of the Atlantic Canadian experience
• Candidates do not have to be Atlantic Canadian to apply

COMPENSATION AND COMMITMENT:
Part-time: Approximately 4 hours per week depending on availability and completion of each story.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work form home, school or anywhere you are comfortable, check emails frequently and respond within 24 hours.
