Online editorial intern opportunity

This is a very exciting time for all of us at canadianimmigrant.ca — we’re currently expanding upon our very successful national print publication, Canadian Immigrant Magazine, online and are looking for passionate, creative intern to help support our editorial team. This opportunity will offer you such benefits as:
• Learning how site structure, functionality and architecture works
• Writing full articles and features for the web

• Working on major national editorial and marketing campaigns

• Must either be enrolled in or a current graduate of a journalism program

Skill requirements
• A minimum of an undergraduate degree in English, communications or journalism is preferred (or currently completing your studies is fine, too).
• Must reside in Toronto; this is an in-house intern position and you will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, depending on scheduling (we’re flexible for applicants who are still in school!)
• Must have a flawless understanding of grammar, spelling and the English language; knowledge of CP style and online conventions is mandatory
• Must be able to write specifically for online audiences (or really keen on learning). New media experience is a plus (photo, video, audio, etc.)
• Photography skills: you must be able to shoot and prepare images for online publication to accompany stories; this skill is mandatory
• Must be willing to pitch story ideas on a weekly basis and/or pick up stories on a quick turnaround basis
• Must be willing to conduct interviews and prepare photos
• A truly passionate attitude toward immigrant stories and issues
• Must be willing to learn new skills, including how to operate in our CMS, posting stories, and working on archival content—don’t worry, we’ll teach you!
• Strong research skills are a major plus—as is being really organized (bonus points for this one!)
• You'll need to have good personal skills and phone skills—we'll have you working on our editorial/grassroots marketing campaigns, too!
