JOB DESCRIPTION INTERN

The Fort McMurray Today is hiring a summer intern. 

Responsibilities:

-Pursuing original story ideas across a range of beats such as municipal and provincial affairs, oilsands and business, health, education, arts, sports, and community profiles.
-Taking photographs
-Posting stories to the web/live tweeting
-Proofreading/copy editing
-Covering gaps in summer editorial staffing, including reporting and photography as well as some online and layout

Requirements:

-Motivated self-starter with strong news judgement

-Completion or near completion of a Journalism diploma or degree from a recognized institution
-Strong reporting skills with a record for meeting deadlines
-Ability to take photos for print/online

-Experience covering breaking/hard news
-Skilled in online/social media
-Experience using InDesign/Quark considered a bonus
-Preference will be given to candidates with a vehicle and driver's license

Period:

May 2013 - August 2013 (Although it is acceptable to start June 1)

Salary: $800 bi-weekly, after taxes
