Description of the Position: The Communications and Marketing Co-op will be an active participant in a fast-paced, full-service communications department that supports the fundraising initiatives of The Hospital for Sick Children. The team is specifically responsible for media relations, publications, internal communications, social media, internet content, marketing/design, video production and managing a unique patient and staff ambassador program. The communications team is seeking a highly organized, highly motivated individual with strong writing, editing and proofreading skills to join the team. Graphic design and photography skills are also an asset. This position reports to the Director, Communications.
This position will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:
• Writing for a variety of communication vehicles, including newsletters, annual report, websites, brochures and presentations
• Assisting with media releases, media monitoring reports and media events, representing the Foundation in a respectful and professional manner
• Assisting with intranet content, all staff emails and general internal communications across the Foundation and hospital
• Assisting with the design of high quality visual materials, including brochures, posters, publications, ads and promotional pieces
• Liaising with patients and their families for the purpose of leveraging their stories for fundraising
• Assisting with social media outreach
• Assisting with photography and video projects, as needed
• Organizing and maintaining Communications’ multiple file and design archives
• Contributing to general office and administrative tasks
• Various other duties as appropriate
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in OR recently graduated from a university degree or college diploma program in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing
• Microsoft Office experience, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Photography as well as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop an asset
• Social media experience
• Discretion, tact, diplomacy and attention to detail are essential
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• A team player

Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional evening work
