The Vancouver Sun
Internship Program
The Vancouver Sun is seeking applications for its summer
2013 internship program.
The Sun plans to hire three reporters and one web
staff/videographer for the four-month program running May 1 to August 31.
Newsroom interns are highly motivated, deadline-oriented
reporters who are equally comfortable breaking news stories on all platforms or
researching and crafting features. They have proven skills posting stories to
the web, shooting and editing video, taking photographs, and using social media
to further community engagement.
Interns assume considerable responsibility in the Sun
newsroom and are expected to have superior multimedia skills and a desire to
help our team drive online traffic and metrics to new highs and beat the
competition. A skill set including knowledge of info-graphics, databases and
the latest social media tools would be an asset.
The successful applicants must be innovative, enterprising
journalists with superior news, judgment, a commitment to accuracy and an
exemplary attitude.
Local knowledge and language proficiency in Cantonese or
Mandarin are assets, but not required. Preferred candidates will have some
previous experience at a daily or weekly newspaper or website.
These four full-time positions involve evening and weekend
work with variable hours and non-consecutive days off.
If you are interested in joining one of Canada’s largest
dailies and working to keep vancouversun.com one of the strongest news websites
in the country, please submit your application by email and hard copy by 5 p.m.
