The organization

CUSO-VSO is a non-profit development agency that works through volunteers. Each year, we send hundreds of global citizens to work on collaborative development projects in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean. We are one of North America’s leading international development organizations that works through volunteers. CUSO-VSO is the North American member of VSO International.

The internships

CUSO-VSO is currently offering 2 internship positions based in Toronto

1) Public Engagement Program Assistant | Public Engagement Program (Toronto Office – 700 Bay St.)

Work will involve supporting the Public Engagement Office in Toronto in their public engagement activities. The intern will actively support the office in the areas of community outreach, event planning, research and administration.

2) Public Engagement Media and Communications Assistant | Public Engagement Program (Toronto Office – 700 Bay St.)

Work will involve supporting the media and communications efforts of the Public Engagement Office in Toronto. The intern will be responsible for maintaining an Ontario media list, creating podcasts of returned volunteers, pitching stories to local media and supporting volunteers in their media outreach.

Date and length

Most of the internship position starts in the week of January 31, 2011. The length of the internship is 10 weeks with 1-2 workdays per week. No remuneration is available for this internship; however CUSO-VSO will reimburse public transportation costs (within Toronto) as well as your lunch costs while at work.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will present the following skills and experience:

  • Interest in international volunteering and development
  • Previous research and professional writing skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Pay careful attention to details and capacity to meet firm deadlines
  • Self-motivated, dynamic and resourceful
  • Familiarity with Public Engagement efforts in Canada and abroad

Please note that students able to receive credit for this internship will be given preference.
