Summer 2014 reporting internships
The Edmonton Journal is seeking applications for its summer 2014 reporting internship program. These paid internships run from mid-May to early September.
We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working senior-level students with a strong interest in reporting at a daily news organization. The successful candidates must be able to take direction, initiate compelling story ideas, and work as part of a dynamic newsroom team. They also must be comfortable filing breaking news and writing on tight deadlines for multiple platforms. The ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure is essential as interns are expected to tackle the same kind of assignments that a staff journalist would handle.
Interns should have strong digital skills, be comfortable leveraging social media to engage audiences, and be able to shoot and edit multimedia projects. Experience with data journalism is an asset. Previous reporting experience at a daily news organization is strongly preferred; a driver’s licence is required. Interns need to be flexible to work evenings, weekends and overtime as the job demands.
Interns tend to work as general assignment reporters in the news section, but we will consider strong applications for reporters in other departments, such as sports, business, and arts and life.
