JOB DESCRIPTION

NEWSPAPER JOURNALIST (CARIBBEAN TIMES INTERNATIONAL)

POSITION TITLE: JOURNALIST (Newspaper)

REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN/ EDITOR, CARIBBEAN TIMES INT’L

General requirements

Adaptable and enthusiastic journalist preferably of Caribbean/ West Indian background to provide content for a Caribbean based newspaper that is targeted to the English speaking Caribbean community (mainly Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados) Good core research, networking and interviewing skills are essential. Comfortable networking and talking to others (including over the phone). Due to few sub-editors, candidates are expected to have excellent written English. Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Skill, Knowledge and Experience.

- Excellent written skills with the ability to tell a story in a clear engaging way.

- The ability to find good stories and come up with ideas that will continually engage the interest of the targeted audience, within agreed deadlines.

- A good understanding of the targeted audience.

- Ability to demonstrate resilience and flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills.

- Ability to exercise good judgment when selecting and writing stories, mindful of Caribbean Times editorial policy and legal issues.

- Accuracy and attention to details.

- A passion for news, current events and sport especially with regards to the Caribbean.

- Knowledge of marketing and business will definitely be considered as an asset.

- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Technical Skills

Some evidence of the ability to use computer based technology to effectively and efficiently assist with assignments.
