dandyhorse magazine is looking for a new assistant editor. This is a part-time position of approximately 10-15
hours per week working from home for a four-month term, with a spike in work
during editorial production for the print issue in May, which includes weekly
(evening or weekend) team meetings during May.

About you:
You have some writing/blogging/editing experience, you like bikes and you are
willing to learn. You also have the ability to focus your attention on details.
The ideal candidate would have another job and/or have experience working two
part-time jobs at the same time.
Details: The
assistant editor will produce approximately two or three self-generated stories
per month, including at least two stories for the print issue. Leads, contacts
and ideas provided (although pitches are always welcome). In addition, the
assistant editor will copyedit and upload at least one story per week from
other contributors. All stories are posted to our social media at least twice.
We work in WordPress and use
Dropbox and Gmail to liaise and coordinate with photographers and writers. Training
and dandy Style Guide are provided.
Break it down: Approximately
3-4 hours a day @ 2-3 days a week for 4 months, with an additional 4-5 hours
per week during may and weekly in person meetings with the publisher and/or EIC
and the designer. You will be working with two other part-time web editors. For
the print publication, you will work with a variety of contributors; from
highly-skilled, established, regularly-published writers and photographers to
students and guest bloggers who work for bike advocacy groups or like-minded
environmental organizations who are looking to promote their good works and
events.
There is a $300 stipend for
this volunteer role.
You will:
- Gain experience editing and
producing stories for a magazine,
- Participate in marketing
campaigns and events for the magazine,
- Get copy and web editing experience,
and;
- Help increase awareness and
positivity around bike culture,
- Get a top masthead title
for our spring/summer 2015 print issue
