magazine is looking
for a managing editor or two.
These are part-time positions
of approximately 10-15 hours per week (usually done on a set 2-3 days), working
from home for a 4-month term. With optional monthly team meetings. Deadline for
application: October 20, 2013 at 5 p.m.
About you:
You have some writing/blogging/editing experience, you like bikes and you are
willing to learn. You have demonstrated good attention to detail. The ideal
candidate would also have another job, and have experience working two
part-time jobs at the same time.
WEB: The managing editor will
produce approximately 1-2 self-generated stories per month (including or in
addition to a Bike Spotting
session each month) PLUS copy edit and upload approximately 1 story per week
from other contributors. (Materials provided.) We work in WordPress..
Leads, story ideas, interview
contacts, writer, photographer and illustrator contacts for self-generated
stories also provided. Pitches ALWAYS welcome!
MAGAZINE: We are starting
production of our spring issue and the managing editor will be asked to help
coordinate various aspects of the magazine, as well as produce one feature for
the print edition (to be published early in spring 2014.) We are also doing a small, limited print-run winter edition to help
launch the winner of our dandyCommute contest and bike giveaway in December!
Break it down: Approximately
3-4 hrs a day @ 2-3 days a week for 4
months. (Pick your own days/times but must be consistent and reliable to ensure
coordination with other dandy contribs and eds.) Stipend: $200 total.
You will gain solid experience
copyediting and web editing, gathering and producing stories for a magazine both
online and in print. CMS and social media training, story contacts and editorial
style guide are provided. New dandy eds are also invited to participate in
marketing campaigns and events for the magazine and design meetings. You will also
be helping to increase positive bike culture!
