We are
thrilled to announce the start-up of our 2013 Summer Student Program.
This is a highly innovative and dedicated initiative that we are very proud of
as it provides a terrific benefit to students and the community in which we
serve.
Through
this program, we offer students from a diverse range of educational areas the
opportunity to get meaningful work experience in the community health sector,
exposure to career-related occupations, experiences that contribute to the
foundation of future health care workers/leaders and as importantly, a chance
to help build greater capacity in the Toronto Central community. There
are three (3) distinct streams that target students as follows:
- Students
from the general public, including a stream for family of Toronto Central
staff.
- Career-oriented
employment for students in Regulated Health Professional programs (e.g.
Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Speech Language
Pathology, and Pharmacy) or other program disciplines (e.g. Business
Administration or Human Resources).
- Students
from partnership organizations intended to build capacity in the community
and/or provide opportunities to at-risk youth. Examples include Pathways
to Education which seeks to “unlock student potential and
transform through the power of education” or the Toronto District
School Board which runs several programs for disadvantaged
students needing basic work experience and guidance.
Applicants
for our Summer Student Work Experience Program must meet all of the following
criteria:
- Minimum
of 16 years of age at the time of selection and legally entitled to work
in Ontario
- Registered
as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intending to
return to full-time studies in the next immediate academic year
- Cannot
hold any other employment that is greater than 20 hours per week while
working with Toronto Central
- Not
have had summer employment with the Toronto Central CCAC in the previous
summer
