Corporate Knights magazine - paid

Posting for Editorial Internship at Corporate Knights magazine (Toronto)

Job title: Editorial intern

Rate of pay: $2,000 over four months

Expected hours per week: Minimum 12 hours

Duties of the job: Writing and research support for a small, socially progressive national business magazine with a Canadian circulation of 100,000 focused on sustainability issues. We are based in Toronto. We are flexible on hours of work, as long as they land within regular business hours. We are located at the corner of Richmond St. and Spadina Ave.

Skills and experience expected of a successful candidate: We are seeking a senior journalism student or recent graduate with an interest in both business and environmental/social justice issues. Obviously, strong writing and interviewing skills are a must. It would be beneficial to have experience with social media and, from a research perspective, a knack for digging up information.

A brief word about project: The successful candidate would support the creation of our spring issue, which is distributed across Canada through the Globe and Mail. A key part of the position will be completion of a 1,500-word feature assignment that, when published, would earn the writer $1,500. Another $500 is available for smaller writing assignments. This internship offers an opportunity to collect bylines, learn the inner workings of an upstart magazine, network with a who’s who in the world of business and sustainability, and help a national publication promote environmental and social responsibility in the corporate world. Some of our past interns have gone on to become freelancers for the magazine and, when openings are available, permanent staff members.

Contact information: Tyler Hamilton, editor-in-chief, tyler@corporateknights.com. For more information about the magazine visit www.corporateknights.com.

Deadline for applications: The position would start in early January and run until the end of April. Please submit applications via e-mail by end of day November 15. Our expectation is to begin interviewing candidates for the internship in late November, early December.
