Edmonton Journal - honorarium

STUDENT INTERNS

The Edmonton Journal is offering internships during the Christmas holidays to senior journalism students who have a desire to obtain some sports reporting experience.

The World Junior Hockey Championships will be in Edmonton and Calgary from Dec. 26, 2011 to Jan. 5, 2012, so we are looking for students available between Dec. 19 and Jan. 5 (dates are somewhat flexible; students can discuss their availability with the Journal).

Students would be involved in the Journal's off-ice coverage of the tournament, which could include blogging, live-blogging, social media coverage, attending fan events, going to team practices, reporting on teams' off-ice activities and shooting video/photos at related events/activities. A knowledge of hockey and experience covering sports is essential; previous experience live-blogging would be an asset. Students could also expect to do some general news coverage as needed by the newsroom. The work schedule would vary, but would include evenings and weekends.

An honorarium of $150/week will be paid.

Interested students are advised to contact Edmonton Journal managing editor Stephanie Coombs by Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at scoombs@edmontonjournal.com. Please include the dates you'd be available, a cover letter/resume, and samples of your work (published stories or school assignments are acceptable - no more than five in total).
