Summer 2015 internships

The Edmonton Journal is seeking applications for its summer 2015 internship program. These paid internships run from mid-May to early September.

We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working senior-level students or recent graduates with a strong interest in working at a daily news organization. We will be hiring three interns to work as general assignment reporters, and one to work as a producer with our digital teams.

Interns at the Journal must be able to take direction, initiate compelling story ideas, and work as part of a dynamic newsroom team. The ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure is essential as interns are expected to tackle the same kind of tasks and assignments that a staff journalist would handle. Interns should have strong reporting and writing skills, be comfortable leveraging social media to engage audiences, and be able to shoot and edit multimedia projects. Experience with data journalism is an asset. Interns are assigned to the news section, but there are opportunities to work in other departments, such as sports, business, and arts and life. If you wish to be considered for this, please state your preferences in your cover letter, and ensure you provide us with appropriate clippings. Driver’s licence required.

Web/mobile producer (1): The successful candidate will work with our web and mobile teams, writing, editing, posting and curating content for our website and mobile app. He or she must have experience in multimedia journalism in a busy news environment, understand how to target content to mobile and web readers, and be able write and edit quickly and cleanly. He or she must have a strong knowledge of social media, and be familiar with WordPress and other content management systems, blogging tools, web analytics and apps. Experience with audio/video editing is essential.

Applicants should send a cover letter, resume and up to five examples of their work to:

PAID Freelance on-camera or voice-over opportunity

Hi, I'm Rosa, and I'm a Ryerson Journalism 2007 grad.

I have been a freelance videographer/photographer since graduation so don't be scared, there are opportunities out there. The industry has changed a lot since I started in this business but it pays to stick it out.

I have some corporate gigs coming up where I need a professional on-camera personality for a two minute corporate video on estate planning.

I've budgeted $250 for about an hour of work at client office for the actual video shoot with a script that will be provided prior to the shoot so you can practice. There may or may not be a teleprompter.

This will be an excellent opportunity for anyone hoping to get into the broadcast industry to get real life experience and a fabulous little clip to their demo reel.

I'd need someone who looks mature and great on camera delivering a fairly dry topic.
Please send me a demo reel/clip by October 12.

Also, I'm always looking for voice-overs as well for some technical videos, so send me your clips if you're interested.
