Assistant Editor, BLOOM/summer position
Rate of pay: $12 per hour
Hours/week: 30 hours (to be discussed)
Duties: Conduct phone, in-person and video interviews and research and write stories with parents, scientists and clinicians, primarily for the blog; edit copy to Canadian Press style; research resources valuable to parents of kids with disabilities; track disability news stories of interest to our readers; do outreach to promote blog and magazine; help to coordinate our speaker series; post pieces on the blog and act as back-up moderator.
Skills/experience: Self-starter, compelling storyteller, ability to translate technical/academic language into plain language, excellent listener, proactive researcher, stickler for detail, experience writing to Canadian Press style (a CP expert please!), understanding of disability issues or sensitivity to issues of marginalized populations, passionate, conscientious, reliable, curious and not afraid to ask questions. Ability to work with a wide range of families and children’s rehab professionals. Experience with Blogger an asset, but not essential. Willingness to question conventional thinking.
