The Summer Career Placements (SCP) program at the
Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto is a Government of Canada
initiative that provides funding to employers and designed to assist students
in preparing for their future entry into the labour market. The initiative provides career-related work
experience to students while complimenting their classroom learning.

Purpose of
the position: To jointly assist the Society's Fund Development
and Communications Departments with their fundraising, event support,
writing, campaign planning and media relations needs.
Reports to:
Jointly reports to Managers of Fund Development and Communications
Responsibilities:
- Administrative support functions arising in the day to day
operations of the two departments, management and content creation of
the Facebook page,
- Preparation for the annual Scholarship event, including follow up
emails and calls to youth being supported as well as supporting the Fund
Development staff with event day preparations,
- Administrative tasks such as and not limited to; photocopying,
filing, and contacting monthly donors, and data entry on donor database,
- Researching, interviewing and writing feature articles for
external agency newsletter,
- Assisting with the planning of the 2015 Child Abuse Prevention
Month Public Awareness Campaign and other special events,
- Supporting pro-active and reactive media relations activities
including developing communications strategies, key messages, news
releases, ongoing media tracking, etc.

Skills
and Knowledge Required:
- Working towards a diploma or degree in event management,
fundraising, communications or public relations;
- Is a self-starter with lots of initiative, organized, and strong
presentation skills, well spoken;
- Is a creative thinker;
- Some knowledge of fundraising and communications (writing);
- Interested in furthering the Hope for Children Fund & CCAS
mission;
- Some knowledge in design and web content;
- Knowledge and skill of the Raisers Edge database system;
- Excellent knowledge and skill of MS Office, Lotus Notes,
PowerPoint and Excel;
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple initiatives at one
time;
- The ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
In order to
qualify for these positions based on the Government of Canada Funding
criteria, applicants must be:
- between
15-30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

registered
as full-time student in the previous academic year;
·
intends
to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
- students in a secondary, post secondary, vocational or
technical program but not attending full time classes while
participating in their placement or hold another full time job that is
30 or more hours per week.

entitled to work in Canada;
- a
Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act.
