The Plaid Zebra

Join The Plaid Zebra’s paid freelancer team

Looking for journalism work that’s good for your portfolio, well-paying, and interesting? ThePlaidZebra.com, a Toronto-based unconventional lifestyle magazine, is looking to expand its roster of freelance writers and photographers.

Applicants should have a strong voice, an eye for unorthodox stories, and an interest in life that defies the nine-to-five grind. If selected, contibutors will pitch and produce one to three stories weekly for a base rate of $50 per story. The magazine will also select a team of paid junior writers that will receive mentorship from the editors before becoming regular freelance contributors. Hours and time commitments will be flexible and manageable for students.

To learn more and apply, come to The Plaid Zebra’s Ryerson info and portfolio session on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. in RCC 187. Please be prepared to provide a one-sentence bio and two to three samples of your writing and/or photography. (Both physical and digital submissions are welcome.) After reviewing the submissions, the editors will interview the most qualified applicants and make their selection.

Send any questions to plaidzebramagazine@gmail.com. If you cannot attend the meeting but are interested in applying, send your bio and portfolio to the same address by Sept. 18.
