Communications Intern – Unpaid

Duration: January 3, 2011 – March 31, 2011 (Part Time: 8-10 hours a week)

Do you love local food and drink, supporting our Ontario terroir and sharing our province’s many culinary tourism stories? If this sounds like you, you might just be the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance’s next communications intern.

OCTA is seeking a dynamic, enterprising and committed individual to join our team and help us spread the word about culinary tourism in Ontario. You’ll get the chance to pitch stories related to happenings in the food/drink/agriculture/tourism scene in our province, cover events, take photos, and create meaningful content for our web and online platforms. We would expect you to produce one piece of original content per week and your stories will have your byline. You will be credited for all photos and video taken. Upon successful completion of the internship, there is a possibility of paid freelancing opportunities with OCTA.

We’re looking for someone who is:

- able to produce clean content with excellent spelling and grammar

- able to pitch story ideas related to culinary tourism in Ontario, and tackle stories that are assigned to you

- able to produce dynamic content and take photos

- respectful of editorial deadlines

- very savvy in social media skills (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr)

- interpersonal and comfortable liaising with individuals and groups in a professional manner

- committed to learning and loving Ontario’s terroir

Valid Ontario Drivers License is required

Video shooting & editing skills a bonus!

Food is the foundation of our culture. Culinary tourism offers the opportunity for people to experience our culture through food and folklore. We are developing relationships between growers and processors, chefs and restaurateurs, bed and breakfasts and distributor, with the goal of establishing new culinary tourism experiences based upon a sustainable food system.

OCTA builds capacity for the Ontario culinary tourism supply chain by connecting growers, producers, processors, tourism operators and other participants in the culinary tourism supply chain.

OCTA is leading efforts in research, education and product development to build capacity for culinary tourism in Ontario. As an industry driven organization working to advance the province’s Culinary Tourism Strategy, OCTA has the goal of developing Ontario into an international culinary tourism destination.
